Spermidine: Why It's in Your HOP Box
Your Body's Autophagy Switch
Autophagy is your body's built-in recycling program. It breaks down damaged proteins and dysfunctional organelles inside your cells, clearing the debris that accumulates with age. When autophagy declines (as it naturally does after 40), cellular waste builds up, contributing to brain fog, skin aging, weakened immunity, and chronic disease.
Spermidine is a natural polyamine that powerfully induces autophagy. It is found in foods like aged cheese, wheat germ, and soybeans, but levels in the body decline significantly with age, exactly when you need it most.
HOP Box uses Puremidine, a standardized spermidine extract, as part of the Hourglass Tipper blend to support your body's cellular housekeeping systems.
What the Research Shows
Longevity and reduced mortality
The most striking human evidence for spermidine comes from a 20-year population study showing that people who ate more spermidine-rich foods lived significantly longer.
Key study: The Bruneck Study followed 829 participants for 20 years and found that those in the top third of dietary spermidine intake had significantly lower all-cause mortality compared to those in the bottom third. The survival difference was equivalent to roughly 5 years of life.

Cognitive function and memory
Age-related cognitive decline is one of the most feared aspects of aging. Spermidine has shown promise for maintaining brain function.
Key study: A 3-month randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in older adults with subjective cognitive decline found that spermidine supplementation (from wheat germ extract) significantly improved memory performance compared to placebo, with enhanced mnemonic discrimination ability.

Cardiovascular health
Spermidine's autophagy-inducing effects extend to the cardiovascular system, where cellular debris in blood vessel walls contributes to arterial stiffness and heart disease.
Key study: Analysis from the Bruneck Study also showed that higher dietary spermidine intake was associated with reduced blood pressure, lower incidence of cardiovascular disease, and reduced cardiovascular mortality over the 20-year follow-up period.

Hair growth
Spermidine has also been studied for its effects on hair follicle cycling, which is relevant for the thinning hair many women experience after 40.
Key study: A 90-day randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found that spermidine-based nutritional supplementation increased the proportion of anagen (active growth phase) hair follicles and improved hair density in women with thinning hair.

Why It's in HOP Box
Dr. Amy Killen included spermidine in HOP Box because declining autophagy is one of the root causes of aging. As your natural spermidine levels drop after 40, your cells lose their ability to efficiently clean up damaged components. Supplementing with spermidine helps restore this critical process.
The Hourglass Tipper blend combines spermidine with NR (an NAD+ precursor) and CaAKG (a biological age reducer) to target multiple mechanisms of cellular aging simultaneously.
The HOP Box Difference
- Puremidine standardized extract for consistent spermidine content
- Combined with NR and CaAKG in the Hourglass Tipper blend
- Doctor-formulated by Amy Killen, MD, a longevity medicine specialist
- Convenient daily packs for consistent autophagy support
