Tetrahydrocurcumin (CurcuPrime): Why It's in Your HOP Box
Beyond Turmeric: A Bioavailable Curcumin That Actually Works
Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, is one of the most studied natural anti-inflammatory compounds in the world. The problem has always been absorption: standard curcumin has notoriously poor bioavailability, with most of it passing through your digestive system unused.
HOP Box uses CurcuPrime (tetrahydrocurcumin), a reduced metabolite of curcumin that your body naturally creates when it processes regular curcumin. By providing the end metabolite directly, CurcuPrime bypasses the absorption bottleneck and delivers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits more efficiently.
Tetrahydrocurcumin is part of the Damage Control blend in HOP Box, targeting chronic inflammation and oxidative damage, two of the hallmarks of aging.
What the Research Shows
Joint pain and osteoarthritis
Joint stiffness and pain are among the most common complaints as women age, driven by declining estrogen and accumulating inflammation.
Key study: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 139 patients with knee osteoarthritis found that curcumin (1000 mg/day for 12 weeks) significantly reduced pain, improved physical function, and decreased inflammatory markers compared to diclofenac (a common prescription anti-inflammatory), with fewer gastrointestinal side effects.

Systemic inflammation (CRP reduction)
C-reactive protein (CRP) is one of the most widely used markers of systemic inflammation and a predictor of cardiovascular disease, metabolic dysfunction, and accelerated aging.
Key study: A meta-analysis of 8 randomized controlled trials found that curcumin supplementation significantly reduced CRP levels, with the greatest effects seen in participants with elevated baseline inflammation, doses of 1000 mg/day or more, and treatment durations of at least 4 weeks.

Skin aging and elasticity
Oxidative stress and inflammation are the two primary drivers of skin aging. Curcumin targets both.
Key study: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found that oral curcumin supplementation over 12 weeks significantly improved skin moisture, reduced wrinkle depth, and enhanced skin elasticity in middle-aged women, as measured by objective biophysical instruments.

Cognitive function
Neuroinflammation is increasingly recognized as a driver of age-related cognitive decline. Curcumin has shown neuroprotective effects in human trials.
Key study: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 40 adults (aged 51-84) found that daily curcumin supplementation (90 mg twice daily for 18 months) significantly improved memory and attention. Brain PET scans showed significantly less amyloid and tau accumulation in the curcumin group.

Why It's in HOP Box
Dr. Amy Killen included tetrahydrocurcumin in HOP Box because chronic inflammation is arguably the single most important factor in accelerated aging. "Inflammaging," the gradual increase in systemic inflammation that accompanies getting older, underlies nearly every age-related disease.
CurcuPrime was chosen over standard curcumin because it provides the active metabolite directly, ensuring that more of what you take actually reaches your cells and exerts its anti-inflammatory effects.
