The best longevity medicine isn’t in your HOP Box

The best longevity medicine isn’t in your HOP Box

Here's what 80 years of Harvard research tells us about living longer.

It's not your supplements. It's not your exercise routine. It's not even your diet.

It's your relationships.

The Harvard Study of Adult Development started tracking 724 men in 1938 – some from Harvard, others from Boston's poorest neighborhoods. Researchers followed them (and eventually their children) for over 80 years, examining every possible factor that might predict health and longevity.

The finding that stood out above all others?

Close relationships keep people happier and healthier. Period.

People who were more socially connected to family, friends, and community lived longer. They were physically healthier, mentally sharper, and reported greater life satisfaction. The quality of those relationships mattered more than the quantity – one close friendship outweighed dozens of acquaintances.

Meanwhile, loneliness was as damaging as smoking or obesity.

What that means for this holiday season

We spend a lot of time talking about cellular health, mitochondrial function, and NAD+ levels. And yes, those things matter.

But if you're stressing about hitting every health metric while missing the people sitting across from you at the dinner table? You're optimizing the wrong thing.

The holidays can feel overwhelming. The travel, the cooking, the endless social obligations, the pressure to make everything perfect. But here's your permission to simplify.

Show up. Be present. Put your phone down. Have the conversation. Make the memory.

That's longevity medicine you can't put in a pill.

The HOP philosophy

Our tagline is "HOP to it" because we believe in motion. Staying active, engaged, and connected.

But motion isn't just physical. It's showing up for people. Making plans. Having adventures together. Laughing until your face hurts. Supporting each other through the hard stuff.

The supplements? They're here to keep your body strong and resilient so you CAN show up. So you can travel to see your in-laws. Play pickleball with friends. Stay sharp enough to have meaningful conversations. Have the energy to be present.

That's the point of all of this.

This week…

If you're with family or friends this holiday season, that's longevity medicine in action…even if it's messy, imperfect, or a little chaotic.

And if you're not? Reach out. Call someone. Make a plan. Send the text you've been meaning to send.

The science is clear: the relationships we invest in now will pay dividends in years we get to live, quality of life, and memories we'll carry with us.

That's worth more than any supplement could ever be.

Happy holidays from our HOP family to you and yours,

Dr. Amy Killen & the HOP Team
